On Tuesday morning, I hired two men from down the road with an old flatbed trailer. We hauled Darryl’s heavy leather recliner, his two chests of drawers, his collection of hunting rifles, and fourteen years of his junk out of the master bedroom and stacked it neatly inside the metal equipment shed out back. Then I put a heavy brass padlock on the shed door and clicked the shackle shut. I walked around the house and changed every exterior lock to deadbolts that required a key Darryl had never been issued.
