“Put that down.”
Chloe froze.
Eleanor turned toward me.
“What?”
“The folder.”
Chloe glanced at the folder and then at Eleanor.
For the first time since I had entered the condo, I saw uncertainty on Eleanor’s face.

“You mean this?” Chloe asked.
“Yes.”
“It contains David’s tax documents.”
“I said put it down.”
Chloe laughed.
“You don’t get to order me around.”
I walked toward her.

Eleanor’s face changed.
“Turn that off.”
I didn’t.
David continued.
“The condo is Sarah’s.”
A nephew whispered, “What?”
David’s voice remained steady.
“I transferred full ownership into Sarah’s name three years ago.”
Chloe dropped the folder.
It landed on the floor.
Nobody spoke.
I stared at the phone.
